De Chevrolet Spark EV is het eerste elektrische voertuig in de Verenigde Staten dat in december de SAE International snellaadconnector als optie aanbiedt.

Afgelopen weekend werd de Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego, Californië, de eerste openbare installatie in de Verenigde Staten voor het SAE International DC "Combo" Fast-Charge-station. De snellaadconnector is een door de industrie gecoördineerde standaard voor het snel opladen van plug-in elektrische voertuigen.

"De lancering van deze nieuwe laadstations zal het gemak en de acceptatie van elektrische voertuigen helpen verbeteren omdat ze de oplaadtijd drastisch verkorten", zegt Pamela Fletcher, uitvoerend hoofdingenieur van elektrische voertuigen bij General Motors.

Met de snellaadconnector kan elektriciteit sneller worden overgebracht, waardoor langere ritten realistischer worden in elektrische voertuigen. Andere autofabrikanten die de technologie toepassen, zijn onder meer Ford, Chrysler, BMW, Daimler, Volkswagen, Audi en Porsche.
